Headshot Prep Checklist for Men

Your professional headshot is a key part of your personal brand, whether for LinkedIn, business profiles, or company websites. Follow this simple checklist to ensure you look polished and confident in front of the camera.

1. Grooming 

Get a haircut 3-5 days before your session for a natural look.

Bring a hair brush or comb to the shoot with you. 

Trim facial hair or shave, ensuring a clean and even finish. Make certain that your beard line is groomed the way you want it to look for the photos. 

Tidy up eyebrows, nose hair, and any visible grooming details.

Avoid excessive sun exposure before the shoot to prevent redness or peeling.

2. Outfit Selection

Stick with solid colors for a clean professional look. 

Avoid patterns and overly bright colors for shirts. 

Layering (blazer over a dress shirt) adds depth and sophistication.

Choose a well-fitted shirt with a crisp collar—wrinkles will show in photos.

Bring at least two outfit options for variety.

Ensure your clothing is free of stains or tears and bring your outfit choice(s) pressed and hanging on a hanger in your vehicle so that you only have to wear them just before the picture is taken.

3. Rest & Hydration

Get a good night’s sleep before your session to avoid tired eyes.

Drink plenty of water the day before to keep your skin looking fresh.

Avoid heavy alcohol, sodas or salty foods, which can cause puffiness.

4. During the Session
